About Michael Childs

Mine is a child's vision of the universe: angels, wood spirits, presage by the swirling grain patterns found in wood. I serve to bring out this beauty, which inspires me to combine art with function. Mine is a whimsical vision, incorporating wheels which do not turn, legs that walk only in the eye, wood grains which twist iridescent in the light, seemingly 3 dimensional, but not and surfaces which appear textured and yet are silky smooth to the touch. My work looks simple but, technically, complex and challenging. The materials are from managed resources, the finish derived from natural oils. My work is designed to endure hundreds of years. Over the past 45 years, I have worked on boats, houses, repaired and restored antiques as well as contemporary pieces, designed and built custom pieces in all styles, worked with architects and interior designers. Wood is my medium.
